H2 — How Our Monastery Beer Is Made

Since October 2023, our beer has been produced through a patented brewing process unique in the Netherlands and Belgium.

1 — Brewing at Artemis (Dronten)
The base beer is crafted according to monastic tradition.

2 — Transport to the Monastery Ship
The young beer is brought to our lab-brewery aboard Elia II the same day.

3 — Refinement & Maturation
Aroma development, assessment, patient maturation and final adjustments.

4 — Small-Batch Bottling
Every bottle is finished with premium quality, champagne-like finesse and a distinct aromatic profile.

This combination makes Het Klooster Beer a truly unique abbey beer.

H2 — What Makes Het Klooster Beer Unique

  • Brewed by a real monastic community

  • Produced according to monastic principles

  • Patented brewing process

  • Refined aboard a floating monastery

  • Small, controlled batches

  • Pure ingredients, no artificial additives

  • Authentic abbey beer made by monks themselves

H2 — About the Monastic Community

The roots of our community lie in Georgia, a country with an ancient Christian monastic tradition. Following the blessing of Patriarch Ilia II, Father Abbot Abibos came to Europe to establish a monastery in Antwerp. After twenty-five years, the monastery moved to its new and unique location: the monastery ship Elia II.

Today, the community continues its life of prayer, work, hospitality and craft. Guests are welcome to visit the chapel, meet the monks and sisters, and experience our brewing tradition firsthand.

H2 — Thank You for Visiting Het Klooster Beer

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Elia II—for a tasting, a cruise, or simply to discover the unique world of monastery beer on the water.

You can order our monastery beer/abbey beer from all over the Netherlands. Our local brewery uses local ingredients, including Zeeland blueberries for our champagne-like De Gezustersbier. To make a reservation or order, please contact us at +31 6 42 18 26 11.
